Organic North Fields Arenal Coffee Tour
Exploring the beautiful Arenal´s coffee plantations !
Come join us for a two hour journey through the history and process of coffee production in Costa Rica. We grow 100% organic coffee, free from chemical fertilizers and pesticides. We will explore the practices that make it possible to produce in a monoculture environment in a sustainable way. We will cover the process from seed to cup.
Our tour begins in our nursury where the process of coffee production begins as well. We will see the various stages, from germination to juvenile, that our trees go through before they are planted in our fields.
Next, we will visit our fields, where visitors will plant a coffee tree that will produce delicious coffee for the next 40 years. Visitors will see how our plants actually bearing fruit that will one day soon be a hot cup of brew. We will discuss some of the traditional practices carried out by generations of Costa Ricans, and how they relate to soil enrichment, pest control and harvesting techniques. Here we will also see some of the other crops that share this land and learn how they are an important part of the overall process.
All of this takes place in the shadow of the Arenal Volcano, which provides the rich, volcanic soil that our coffee thrives on.
Finally, we will return to our home farm where we will see how our harvested beans get processed. We will see the animals that share this farm, extract “jugo de caña” from our “trapiche” to enjoy, and then prepare a delicious pot of coffee to be enjoyed with a typical Costa Rican snack.
